The second "Green Series' of International Webinars examining green technology and sustainability issues in relation to the logistics and transport sector. We
were delighted to welcome Professor Alan McKinnon, Kühne
Logistics University to discuss the Global Environmental Crisis: Future
Challenges for the Transport and Logistics Profession.
This crisis is caused primarily by fossil-fuel emissions
which pollute the air and heat the planet. As transport operations are almost
entirely powered by fossil fuel they are a major source of both pollutants and
greenhouse gases (GHGs). The webinar began by reviewing the extent of
transport’s contribution to the air pollution and global warming problems. It
then focused on GHG emissions from the movement of freight, examining future
trends and targets and exploring what can be done to decarbonise freight
transport operations. The talk concluded with a discussion of the skills that
transport and logistics professionals will need to acquire to be able to manage
this decarbonisation process.
The
recording of the webinar is now on the homepage of the international
website and can also be accessed by following this link to the international
