The pandemic of COVID-19, one of the most unpredictable black swans in modern history, has sent great shockwaves through global maritime transport. According to UNCTAD, global maritime trade had plunged by over 4% in 2020 due to the unprecedented disruption, registering the first negative growth of the industry since 2009. Other unexpected impact gradually emerged: container freight rates surged over 500% on some routes, and the on-time performance of liner shipping dropped dramatically to a historic low. At this forum, experts and scholars will elaborate on the latest developments of the shipping industry and share their views with you.
