Introduction to Railway Bridges Dr. WONG Man-tat | Manager - Special Duty | MTR Corporation Ltd.
Dr. Wong is the Manager - Special Duty at MTR Corporation Ltd. responsible for training the new PWay Managers and Engineers in PWay Design, construction and maintenance technology. Also, he is the MTR Academy's Part-time lecturer for teaching Engineering Mathematics and PWay Knowledge.
Dr. Wong has over 40 years' experience in PWay design, maintenance and asset management. He is a member of China Hong Kong Railway Institution. He has published some articles in trade and professional journals. His research area is focused on the damage detection of the railway ballast.
Railway Bridge is a special type of bridge and has developed over 100 years. Nowadays, it is the most important structure for the high-speed railway. Different types of railway bridges were built for the past century, for example, steel truss, arch bridge, suspension bridge and pre-stressed concrete bridge, etc. It requires a deep knowledge of structural engineering and the operations and safety requirement of train service.
The presentation will talk about the general introduction of the history of the railway bridge development in the past 100 years. Also, the talk will describe the major compositions of the railway bridges and their functions. As such, the seminar will introduce some key railway bridge design elements. |
